About Physik Instrumente (PI)
PI stands for peak technical performance and is considered a global market and technology leader in the field of precision positioning technology with accuracies down to nanometers. It is our aim to further extend our pioneering role to the world market and we have exactly what it takes. PI offers a technological spectrum and a vertical production range that are beyond competition worldwide. However, our most important concern is to continually inspire our customers with advanced positioning solutions.
Unique Range of Technologies
The technological range of the PI Group is unique in the world. PI develops, manufactures and qualifies all its core technologies itself. Thus PI is independent of components available on the market and offers individual solutions that go beyond the state of the art. The high degree of flexibility provides the customers of PI with significant competitive advantages.
Vertical Production Range and Production Capacity
The product range from a two-ton Hexapod to a 10-gram nanopositioner requires that PI disposes of the necessary equipment and technologies to manufacture, mount and qualify these systems.
Certified Quality
The PI Group aims at applying the same high quality, safety and environmental protection standards at every site all over the world. The Integrated Management System (IMS) reflects this commitment. Within this system, PI combines all quality management, environmental management as well as work and health management methods and policies in a uniform organizational structure and commits to comply with the specifications of the international standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and the REACH regulation. Compliance with the requirements is documented, checked and monitored in the IMS. By utilizing synergies, the IMS helps to efficiently and continuously improve the processes, products and services of the PI Group.
About Andor Technology Ltd.
Andor Technology Ltd. is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and operates at the high-value end of the global scientific digital camera market. Andor was setup in 1989 out of Queen’s University in Belfast, and now employs over 400 people in 16 offices worldwide and distributes its products to 10,000 customers in 55 countries.
“Our mission is to become the global leader in pioneering and manufacturing high performance light measuring solutions”
The History
The founders of Andor, working in the Physics department of Queen’s University, Belfast, found that the cameras then available were inadequate for their demanding applications, so developed their own. After using them in various imaging and spectroscopic applications they found they were being requested by researchers in other departments in Queen’s and other universities. Andor was formed in 1989 to take advantage of these requirements.
The company has grown organically and is today the fastest growing company manufacturing high performance digital cameras. Along the way they have pioneered the development of high performance cameras.
Andor, acquired Bitplane AG, Zurich, Switzerland, in 2009. Bitplane is the world’s leading interactive microscopy image analysis software company specialising in Medical and Life Sciences. Bitplane’s focus on 3D and 4D imaging complements Andor’s existing business, especially the rapidly growing systems division.
To strengthen the microscopy division further Andor acquired Photonic Instruments, USA, in 2010. Photonic Instruments developed the revolutionary Mosaic and Micropoint products and are the market leaders in fluorescence imaging and laser ablation for Confocal and widefield microscopy.
In January 2014, Oxford Instruments, a leading provider of high-technology tools for industry and research, announced the acquisition of Andor Technology. As a result of this acquisition, Andor will continue to focus on growing their existing core markets and will spearhead Oxford Instruments strategic expansion into the Nano-Bio arena.

About Ocean Optics Inc.
Ocean Optics delivers application-specific expertise, services and solutions to define and resolve important challenges across multiple industries and disciplines. Because every insight starts with a question.
Ocean Optics, formerly known as Ocean Optics, began as a small group of scientists with a single measurement challenge and today it is a global photonics enterprise, yet it remains grounded in the moment when people, ideas and technology come together to solve a problem.
The invention of the company’s modular spectrometer 25 years ago made spectroscopy portable, inexpensive and accessible. The concept of modular spectroscopy has expanded dramatically and is now being applied to global problems. In some cases Ocean Opticsspectrometers act as the primary analytical instrument, in other, they are used to solve just one piece of the puzzle, reflecting the complex nature of science and industry and the need for many different complementary techniques to drive progress.
Delivering Useful Insights
Ocean Optics’ integrated approach to customer needs is called Applied Spectral Knowledge (ASK) – a combination of innovative spectroscopy hardware, software and on-demand data delivery, backed by deep category expertise.
ASK ties the historic strength in product design and development with in-house, cross-functional, category-specific expertise. By drawing from disciplines including systems and software development; optical, mechanical and electrical engineering and industrial design Ocean Optics assembled the capacity to provide intensive customer collaboration on highly precise challenges across many industries.
Ocean Lab Services
Ocean Lab Services is the bridge between helping customers to define their most pressing challenges and providing the tools and Optics to solve them.
